Happy 4-day weekend everyone!
I hope you all have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend! Thank you for all of the delicious sweets and treats you gave to us this week for Valentine’s Day. Your children are truly the best gifts we could have. I hope you enjoyed the “Important Book” your child brought home.
Parents, I need your help. We’ve reached the time of year where students are starting to fade and effort is decreasing in certain areas. Please help your child by getting him to bed early each evening, and reminding students of our high expectations for behavior.
As for homework, please remember that mainstreaming HW comes first. Just write a note on any homework from me if it’s just too overwhelming …I understand how that evening time can go sometimes.
Here’s what we’ll be up to this week:
Reading – 5th Grade & 3rd Grade will finish the FDR biography and project (completed at school). 4th will continue in GW Socks and will work on responding to literature. 3rd and 5th graders will focus on summarizing.
Writing – We are temporarily revisiting the narrative this week since it’s a short week. Students started a narrative about being the Principal for the Day today, and we’ll be taking that through the writing process all next week.
Math – 3rd graders are working on fractions. We modeled and worked with visual representations this week. Next week, we’ll start breaking down the vocabulary and applying basic operations. 5th graders are finishing up metric and customary systems. Next we will work on area, perimeter, and geometry of circles.
Have a wonderful weekend! Thank you for all you do!
-Miss W.
Happy Friday!
There are some important things coming home in the Friday folder – please take note!
- We are going to the Book Fair to preview at 2:15 today. Your child will have a flyer with his “wish list” in the Friday folder. Please remember that we have a 6% sales tax on all purchases if you choose to order something. We will shop on Wednesday the 15th.
-We are going to have a Valentine’s celebration on Tuesday afternoon, but we are still holding firm to the “no candy” policy. Students will be exchanging trinkets instead. I’m sending a hard copy of the letter I e-mailed out home in the Friday folder. Thanks for keeping us healthy and happy!
- FRIDAY the 17th and MONDAY the 20th are HOLIDAYS. Enjoy the 4-day weekend!
-Conference confirmations for those of you who signed up online will come home today. If you had an IEP this month, you do not need a conference. However, if you still wish to meet, let me know!
Here’s what we’ll be up to next week:
Reading -3rd Grade & 5th Grade – Franklin Delano Roosevelt biography (5th grade’s lessons will emphasize the New Deal and Great Depression), 4th Grade – George Washington’s Socks. Our target skills will focus on vocabulary building and main idea.

Have a great weekend!

Hello, everyone! Welcome to Brookwood Elementary! I am so excited about the year we will spend together growing and learning! Since some of you may be new to Ms. Warnock’s World, please allow me to introduce myself!
I was born and raised here in Snellville, GA. I attended Grayson Elementary, Pharr Elementary, Snellville Middle School, and South Gwinnett High School. When I graduated from SGHS in 2000, I moved to Athens to attend the University of Georgia (Go Bulldogs!). After graduating from UGA in 2003, I worked as a department head in the non-profit sector for Habitat for Humanity and the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta. In 2006, I realized that I still hadn’t found my calling, so I returned to Snellville and began working at Brookwood Elementary. What can I say? I was hooked!
The 2011-2012 school year is my seventh year at Brookwood Elementary and my seventh year working with students on the Autism spectrum. I recently received my Master’s degree in Behavior Disorders/Autism from Georgia State University. I love coming to work everyday to learn and grow with my students!
A little more about me: In my spare time, you’ll find me at the swimming pool coaching, teaching lessons, or just having fun. I love coffee, Diet Dr. Pepper, and Trader Joe’s. Cooking and reading are two of my favorite hobbies, and if I wasn’t already at my dream job, I’d want to be singing in a Disney movie or on Broadway.
I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my world! Please use this website to support your child in his studies. You will find our class calendar, links to extra help sites, and much, much more!
It’s going to be a great year in Warnock’s Wonderland!
-Miss W.
